With the objective of promoting common interests in the field of chemical and biological warfare, representatives from the Brazilian Army and the United States Department of Defense signed an agreement to enhance exchange and knowledge, expanding the Master Information Exchange Agreement (MIEA) previously concluded.

This framework agreement envisages exchanges of unclassified information between the parties, mutual visits to laboratories and research centers, and discussions on technical studies, aiming to strengthen and create new project partnerships, contributing to the training of human resources and new developments.

In the signing of the agreement, on the Brazilian side, the Department of Science and Technology was represented by Major General Armando Morado Ferreira, along with representatives from the Army Technological Center and the Institute of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defense. On the U.S. side, the agreement was signed by Mr. Michael Bailey, Director of the Chemical and Biological Defense Center of the Combat Capabilities Development Command of the United States Army (DEVCOM-CBC).

Currently, the framework agreement signed in late 2023 encompasses mutual agreements for research, development, project evaluation, as well as standardization in the use of military equipment related to defense against chemical and biological threats. Among the key topics for the exchange of information on chemical and biological defense, detection and analysis of samples, decontamination, computer modeling, security, quality management, and technologies to verify compliance with the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) and conduct tests for the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) are highlighted.

This agreement strengthens diplomatic and institutional relations between Brazil and the United States in the defense field, adding to the project for the development of long-range ammunition for 120mm mortars, and the First Nitrocellulose and Propellants Workshop, participating in technical-scientific exchange activities carried out at the Military Engineering Institute (IME).
