During the morning of Monday (29/01), Brazilian Air Force (FAB) planes intercepted a Cessna 182 aircraft approximately 110 kilometers from Boa Vista (Roraima, Brazil) within the designated Air Defense Identification Zone (ZIDA).
The aircraft in question was identified as suspicious of engaging in illicit air traffic. In response, the Brazilian Air Force deployed early warning aircraft E-99, R-99, and A-29 Super Tucano attack aircraft. Ground support was provided by the Federal Police (PF), and the operation was monitored by the Aerospace Operations Command (COMAE).
According to the arrangement, the ZIDA consists of: a reserved area (White Area); a restricted area (Yellow Area); and a prohibited area (Red Area). It is the responsibility of the Air Command to take Airspace Police Measures (MPEA) against any suspected air traffic, as stipulated in the Brazilian Aeronautical Code.
In accordance with Decree 11,405, dated January 30, 2023, and after failing to comply with ZIDA regulations, the aircraft was classified as suspicious, and the Airspace Police Measures (MPEA) protocol was implemented.
Once the aircraft was intercepted and failed to comply with orders for identification, a Super Tucano aircraft fired a warning shot. Subsequently, the C-182 landed on a dirt runway and was seized by the PF with the support of an H-60 Black Hawk helicopter, which transported personnel from the Boa Vista Air Base Security and Defense Group (GSD-BV) and PF agents.
