Through an official statement, the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Argentine Armed Forces confirmed that, since mid-last January, the Argentine Air Force has deployed IA-63 Pampa III advanced training aircraft in the northern part of the country. The presence of the aircraft corresponds to “(…) ongoing operations carried out in pursuit of comprehensive aerospace defense“.
The EMCOFFAA (Joint Chiefs of Staff) stated that the presence of the advanced trainers of the Argentine Air Force is being coordinated and executed through the Aerospace Joint Command (COCAES), under the Operational Command of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces, “fulfilling its main mission: aerospace surveillance and control“.
Furthermore, the Joint Chiefs of Staff indicated that the IA-63 aircraft have been operating in the northern part of the country in conjunction with the radar network deployed in that region, which is part of the National Aerospace Surveillance and Control System (SINVICA).
However, neither the Joint Chiefs of Staff nor the Argentine Air Force have provided further details on the number of IA-63 Pampa aircraft involved in this deployment, nor to which units of the institution they belong. In the past, the deployment of this class to the region has occurred with varying frequency to carry out aerospace surveillance and control missions.
