With an airshow held on Monday at the Accra Air Base (Ghana), the Brazilian company Embraer showcased the capabilities of the A-29 Super Tucano attack aircraft to authorities from the Ghana Air Force.
The event, organized by the force itself in collaboration with Embraer Defence and Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC), aimed to demonstrate the Super Tucano’s capabilities in close air support and aerial reconnaissance missions in low-intensity environments. During the opening of the exhibition, the Chief of the Air Staff, Vice Marshal Frederick Asare Kwasi Bekoe, expressed his enthusiasm for the aircraft’s presence, highlighting its importance for the Ghana Air Force to acquire light attack aircraft in the face of growing terrorist threats in the region.
He also added that the partnership with SNC and Embraer was timely, considering that the A-29 Super Tucano represents a strategic offensive platform that can enhance deterrence capabilities and the offensive posture of the force in the region. Defense Minister Dominic Nitiwul emphasized the importance of prioritizing the fight against terrorism to address the evolving security landscape.
Representatives from SNC and Embraer, Eric Hauff and Arnold Sobrero, expressed their satisfaction with this collaboration opportunity, considering future cooperation. After the speeches, the attending authorities had the opportunity to witness the static exhibition, which later included the aerial demonstration.
It is worth noting that Super Tucanos are operated in the region by the Air Forces of Mali, Angola, Burkina Faso, and Nigeria in aerial surveillance and counterinsurgency operations. The surveillance, ground support, and ground attack capabilities of the A-29 are highly valued by users, representing a significant contribution to the fight against terrorism, the main threat in the region.
