Israeli company Elbit Systems was awarded a contract worth approximately $600 million to supply systems to Hanwha Defense Australia for the Australian Land 400 Phase 3 Project. This project aims to deliver advanced protection, fighting capabilities and sensors suite to the Redback Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFV) for the Australian Army. The contract will be performed over a period of five years.

The Redback was designed by Hanwha Defense. The Redback will replace the Australian fleet of M113AS4 armored personnel carriers.

Armor of the Redback was developed in cooperation with Israeli company Plasan. According to sources in Israel the hull and turret provide all-round protection from 30 mm armor-piercing rounds.
The Redback was also designed from the start to be fitted with Israeli Elbit’s Iron Fist active protection system developed by Elbit systems. It defeats incoming anti-tank rockets and missiles.
