According to a publication by the shipyard SIMA (Servicios Industriales de la Marina S.A), the amphibious ship type LPD B.A.P. Pisco (AMP-156) of the Peruvian Navy (MGP) entered dry dock to undergo scheduled maintenance work.
During the month of January, the unit participated in the amphibious phase of Exercise Vilit-Vilita 2024, held on the beaches of the resort town of Ancón, north of the city of Lima (Peru). The maneuver, carried out by Task Force 80, included the deployment of amphibious armored vehicles LAV along with an LCU (Landing Craft Unit) boat.
It is worth noting that the B.A.P. Pisco (AMP-156) is the first Makassar-class amphibious ship incorporated by the MGP. It is a multipurpose ship of the LPD (Landing Platform Dock) type designed and built by the Peruvian shipyards SIMA (Servicios Industriales de la Marina). Its construction began in July 2013, launched in April 2017, and commissioned into the fleet in June 2018.
It has a displacement of 7,300 tons and 10,894 tons at full load with a range of 14,000 miles. It carries two LCU landing craft of 23 m each, as well as 14 armored vehicles type LAV 2 (8×8) or 14 MAN TGS-Mil 29,440 (6×6) troop-carrying trucks.
On the other hand, SIMA continues with the construction of the second Makassar-class ship for the MGP, the B.A.P. Paita (AMP-157), of which recent progress in its construction was seen, mainly in its structure.
Regarding the “Paita,” although the Navy has not detailed the current status of the work, in the images shared by SIMA, it could be observed that the installation and joining of the modules of the superstructure of the hull have been completed, including masts, chimney assembly, and hangar, a sector that still has scaffolding for its work.
