With the aim of exchanging and updating tactics and procedures between the Special Operations Forces of the Armies of Chile and the United States, delegations from both countries initiated the Joint Combined Exchange Training (JCET) exercise.
With the premise of standardizing procedures to facilitate the deployment of both units in a joint and combined mission in different geographic areas, this exercise stands out for adapting participating units to critical factors, primarily related to executing different maneuvers in different languages.
Participating on behalf of the Chilean Army is the Special Operations Brigade “Lautaro” (BOE), which, through a process of homologation and certification, undergoes training related to joint and combined operations in international cooperation missions with the United States Army. Regarding this, Captain Jonnathan Arévalo L. affirmed, “The JCET is an integral part of BOE specialists’ training. It’s another demonstration of the international cooperation that the Special Forces of the Chilean Army carry out annually.”
It’s worth noting that the exchange between both armies during the first half of this year included, in addition to the JCET, the first meetings for planning the “Southern Fénix” exercises, which will take place this year in the Tarapacá Region, and the “Southern Vanguard” Exercise, scheduled for 2025.
Furthermore, it’s pertinent to highlight one of the main milestones of cooperation between both countries, which was the execution of the multidomain combined exercise Southern Star 2023. On that occasion, the US Air Force showcased an AC-130 Ghostrider attack aircraft alongside an ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance) U-28A Draco aircraft, which operated from Cerro Moreno Air Base, Antofagasta.
