In a post on its official X account, the United States Department of State celebrated President Javier Milei’s statements after the Argentine president expressed support for the purchase of F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets from Denmark for the Argentine Air Force (FAA).

On March 20th, local media confirmed that in the coming days, the Danish Minister of Defense, Troels Lund Poulsen, is expected to visit, and will meet with Defense Minister Luis Petri as part of a bilateral agenda for cooperation between both countries in this area. One of the main topics of the meeting will be the formalization of the purchase of the F-16A/B MLU Fighting Falcon fighters.

It’s worth noting that Argentina and Denmark have been negotiating for months for the purchase of the F-16A/B MLU from the Royal Danish Air Force, a process that has been approved by the United States, both for the aircraft and for financial assistance, acquisition of the weapons package, among other aspects of the purchase.

The acquisition of the Danish F-16s has received authorization and approval from the United States at various levels, giving the green light for the sale of up to 38 F-16 Block 10/15 aircraft that will be decommissioned by Denmark. The final quantity to be incorporated by the Argentine Air Force would be reduced to just over two dozen units, in view of the operational requirements of the Force.

The visit of Minister Troels Lund Poulsen will take place next week, as part of a series of high-profile meetings of the Defense Ministry, as it is also expected that the Commander of the United States Southern Command, General Laura Richardson, will visit, to discuss various defense-related issues on the bilateral agenda with Argentina.
