The Argentine Navy confirmed the deployment of the corvette ARA Espora to the 200-mile zone in order to carry out patrol, surveillance, and control missions. As is often the case in these situations, the operations are being conducted through the Joint Maritime Command.
The ARA Espora is one of the six units of the Espora class in service with the Argentine Navy, belonging to the Corvette Division. Built by Astilleros y Fábricas Navales del Estado (now Astillero Río Santiago), it was launched in 1982 and joined the then-2nd Corvette Division of the Fleet in 1985.
Since then, it has performed various functions and participated in several joint exercises, with one of its main tasks currently being support for surveillance and control operations in the Exclusive Economic Zone.
Subsequently, on March 24, the Ministry of Defense and the Argentine Navy confirmed that the oceanic patrol vessel ARA “Contraalmirante Cordero” was also deployed to reinforce surveillance and control efforts in the 200-mile zone.
