After many vicissitudes and challenges, the Río Santiago Shipyard is currently finalizing the delivery to the Argentine Navy of the two Cadet Instruction Boats (LICA) today, April 16th. The event is taking place at the shipyard facilities located in the city of Ensenada, Buenos Aires province, with the participation of authorities from the provincial government and the Navy.
Currently, a team from Zona Militar is at the Río Santiago Shipyard to provide the latest updates on the delivery of the LICA ARA ‘Ciudad de Ensenada’ and ARA ‘Ciudad de Berisso’. As previously reported, the delivery of these two new units will be complemented with the provision of the gate for Dry Dock 2 of the Puerto Belgrano Arsenal.
According to information from ARS, the LICA ARA ‘Ciudad de Ensenada’ and ARA ‘Ciudad de Berisso’ will be essential for the training of students at the Naval School, as until now, “…they received theoretical instruction and simulation training but did not have these vessels that are central to professional career instruction…”.
The delivery of the two LICA comes after the project suffered considerable delays, causing the initial schedule to be extended for several years.
Regarding the gate for Dry Dock 2 of the Puerto Belgrano Arsenal, it will allow larger ships to be dry-docked than those that can currently enter. “…This dock is the largest in the country, and this gate is the most important metalworking work constructed in Argentina recently, and it will allow this dock to regain all its capabilities…”, detailed ARS.
