Under the title “Agile Reaper”, the United States Air Force conducted exercises at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, aimed at practicing Agile Combat Employment with a dual focus on the Indo-Pacific. Additionally, F-22 Raptors assigned to the 90th Fighter Squadron participated in the exercise.

From April 1st to April 17th, Alaska hosted an exercise that involved rehearsing and testing the Air Force’s capabilities in a relevant environment, providing air superiority, mobility, and command/control. The maneuvers utilized combat representative roles and processes.

However, the particular reason for this exercise is linked to the force’s intention to project towards the Indo-Pacific theater. “The ‘fight to get into the theater’ is something that is often overlooked but we must continue to exercise and perfect,” said US Air Force Colonel Jessica Regni, Deputy Commander of the 3rd Wing.

“It is clear that we must move with a sense of urgency if we are to effectively prepare for great power competition and I believe we are witnessing a transformative shift here at JBER,” stated US Air Force Colonel David Wilson, Commander of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) and the 673d Air Base Wing.

On the other hand, the Colonel noted the importance of working alongside the 673rd ABW to ensure that the 3rd AEW (3rd Wing Expeditionary Air) entered the theater of operations, which became evident throughout the week as it required airmen to work through challenges to generate combat power at the speed of requirements.

Furthermore, the Colonel explained that these types of exercises give the base the opportunity to overcome challenges so that, when called upon, the 3rd AEW can enter the theater of operations and provide air superiority.
