Starting at the end of this month, two lieutenants from the Paraguayan Navy will set sail aboard the USS George Washington aircraft carrier in support of the “Southern Seas 24” deployment by the United States Navy, which will soon visit Argentina, Brazil, and Chile, among other stops on its journey. It’s the first time that Paraguayan Navy officials are actively participating in this exercise that will traverse the southern seas, departing from Florida, with routes through the Atlantic and then the Pacific. Lieutenant Freddy Rojas and Lieutenant Alejandra Wrebe will participate as part of the strengthening of maritime alliances.
Through a statement, the United States Navy announced that two dozen officers from 11 partner countries will serve aboard the USS George Washington. This personnel will receive instruction from professors at the United States Naval War College and will work alongside personnel from Destroyer Squadron 40 to conduct detailed operational planning in support of maritime operations.
In addition to officers from the Paraguayan Navy, officers from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, the Netherlands, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United Kingdom will be on board.
“We look forward to developing and advancing in training as we interact with our friends and partners in South America,” said Rear Admiral Robert Westendorff, commander of Carrier Strike Group 10. “We also look forward to visiting several spectacular places in South America, as U.S. Navy sailors do not often see this part of the world,” Westendorff added.
Meetings and visits
Continuing with the close cooperation between the United States Navy and the Paraguayan Navy, this week a Bilateral Meeting was held at the Marine Infantry Command between authorities from the Marine Infantry Command and the U.S. Marine Corps Force South.
The purpose of this meeting is to increase cooperation and trust, establish interrelationships through the development of a cooperation plan that includes combined training between both forces, the exchange of combat experiences, and the establishment of common objectives in the professionalization and training in riverine operations.
Additionally, a delegation of experts in Secure Communications from the Defense Cooperation Office of the United States Embassy in Paraguay visited the Naval Area and the Confluence Zone Prefecture in the city of Paso de Patria, which borders Argentina via the Paraná River.
The activity is carried out in order to facilitate an appropriate solution to Secure Communications, within the framework of River Security Resilience Programs with the Paraguayan Navy.
