In light of the visit and port call of the French Navy’s helicopter carrier Tonnerre and the frigate Guépratte in Buenos Aires, the Argentine Navy is making final preparations to participate with its assets and personnel in joint exercises. Although subject to change, it is expected that these exercises will take place in the first days of May, after the French ships conclude their stay in the port of Buenos Aires.

As previously reported by Zona Militar on April 25th, during the visit and tour of the helicopter carrier Tonnerre, the commander of the ship and the “Jeanne d’Arc 2024” mission, Captain Adrien Schaar, mentioned the upcoming activities with the Argentine Navy in the following days.

Specifically, as part of one of the pillars of the “Jeanne d’Arc 2024” mission, based on cooperation with other regional military and naval forces, Captain Schaar indicated that activities such as underway replenishment and flight deck operations involving French naval helicopters and Argentine ships, and vice versa, are expected to take place.

According to sources consulted by Zona Militar, the Argentine Navy’s Fleet is preparing two of its assets to participate in the activities. Although further details were not provided, this would involve a MEKO 360 destroyer and one of the new ocean patrol vessels acquired from France. However, until the ships have sailed, this schedule may vary in composition. It is also presumed that some assets, subject to availability, from the Naval Aviation Command may participate in the exercises, such as one of the AS-555 Fennec helicopters, which has been actively engaged in training with Fleet ships in recent weeks.
