After several months without the registration of new deliveries, the Russian Ground Forces received the first batches of T-72B3M and T-90M Proryv tanks from the Uralvagonzavod production plant corresponding to the year 2024. This was reported by the state consortium Rostec, highlighting that the deliveries for the former coincided with the upcoming Victory Day celebration, while for the latter, with Labor Day and Spring Day.
The news of the delivery of new batches of tanks, in their most modern versions, comes at a time when the Russian Armed Forces are consolidating various advances and gains in Eastern Ukraine. This situation, reported by various specialists and acknowledged by Ukrainian and allied authorities, seemed to indicate that the Ground Forces are preparing to launch a new summer offensive in the short term.
According to Rostec, in its official statement on May 6, the combat vehicle production plants are operating in various shifts to fulfill the state orders for the year 2024. This is evidenced by the sustained deliveries of equipment that the Ground Forces have been receiving to sustain their war effort.
However, as was observed during the first months of the year, no deliveries of new T-72B3M and T-90M tanks had been reported, with the last batch received to date being in December. Conversely, deliveries of T-80BVM tanks were recorded during February of this year, as well as the resumption of production of new GTD-1250 gas turbine engines.
The T-90M “Proryv” is the most modern tank in service with the Russian Ground Forces, incorporating Relikt reactive armor (ERA), which can withstand the latest APFSDS projectiles as well as shaped charges; along with the new 2A46-M cannon, used with the characteristic 22-round autoloader.
On the other hand, the T-72B3M incorporates refinements and improvements to its capabilities, such as a new V-92S2 1,000 HP engine. Additionally, it includes a new sighting system with digital displays for its operators, along with a rear camera. Other features include Relikt reactive armor plates, R-168-25U-2 Akveduk radio equipment, Sosna-U sights for the gunner, and a new fire suppression system
