According to confirmation from the Ministry of Defense of the Netherlands, it has been announced that the country will soon supply armored vehicles YPR-765 to the Armed Forces of Ukraine following a request made by its president, Volodymyr Zelensky. This was recently announced by the Minister of Defense, Kajsa Ollongren, during a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG), an association with more than 50 countries aimed at providing assistance, equipment, and support in terms of defense to Ukraine.
The incorporation of the YPR vehicles dates back to a request from the Ukrainian president, who had already expressed interest in the Dutch armored units, resulting in the delivery to date of a total of 207 YPR of different types from the Netherlands.
The armored vehicles to be provided enable troops to mobilize quickly and can be deployed in reconnaissance, offensive, and defensive roles. Additionally, their weaponry can be remotely controlled, providing additional security to the shooter, emphasized the minister. The YPRs are equipped with Remote Controlled Weapon Stations (RCWS) that give the crew some control over the weapons from inside the armored vehicle.
It is known that the Netherlands has around 2,000 units of these armored vehicles, which have been in service in the ranks of the Armed Forces since 1977 and were later replaced by more modern versions and the CV90.
The official statement indicates that the units will arrive in Ukraine in a few days. The quantity of these vehicles and the type of weaponry has not yet been disclosed.
