In order to advance with the integration of the latest version of the ASMPA strategic missile system, a Dassault Rafale B aircraft belonging to the French Air and Space Army carried out the first launch of the new ASMPA-R medium-range missile version.
The test took place yesterday, May 22, as part of Operation Durandal. It was carried out by a Rafale B fighter-bomber tasked with firing the missile, with support from an Airbus A330 Phenix tanker aircraft.
The operation involved launching the missile from a Rafale in a simulated environment with a threat of anti-aircraft means, and the shot was carried out under the supervision of the Directorate General of Armament (DGA) from the Biscarrosse, Hourtin, and Quimper ranges.
According to the official statement from the French Air and Land Army, the program to renew the ASMPA strategic missiles demonstrates the importance of increasing the effectiveness of France’s nuclear deterrence capability. In particular, this system has improved in terms of its operational performance, allowing it to remain effective until the arrival of the future 4th generation air-to-ground nuclear missile ASN4G, scheduled for 2035.
