With the entry into national jurisdictional waters of the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) and its escorts, the Argentine and United States Navies began Exercise PASSEX “Gringo-Gaucho II.” The initial official and protocol activities took place in the morning hours when two Sea King helicopters from the Naval Aviation Command transported part of the official delegation. This delegation is headed by the Minister of Defense of the Argentine Republic, Luis Petri, and senior military officials.
As previously reported by the Argentine Navy, the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73), together with its two escorts, the destroyer USS “Porter” and the Logistic Ship USNS “John Lenthall”, were received by the destroyer MEKO 360 ARA “La Argentina” who escorted them to the meeting point with the rest of the Sea Fleet.
For this purpose, as a repair, the Argentine Navy Sea Fleet made the last preparations yesterday for the participation in the Gringo-Gaucho II Exercise with the United States Navy, being enlisted destroyers MEKO 360, corvettes MEKO 140 and ocean patrol vessels OPV-90, which were anchored off the coast of Mar de Plata. As for rotary wing aircraft, the Argentine Navy Aviation Command deployed a Fennec helicopter from the First Helicopter Aeronautical Squadron (EAH1) and two Sea King helicopters from the Second Helicopter Aeronautical Squadron (EAH2).
Although no further information is available yet, the Argentine Navy confirmed through its official networks that the Sea King helicopters of the Second Aero-Naval Helicopter Squadron landed on the flight deck of the USS George Washington. The video, viralized in the networks, shows part of the Embarked Air Group of the US Navy ship, made up of F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter-bombers and fifth generation F-35C fighters.
Subsequently, following the landing of the Sea Kings on the aircraft carrier, it was revealed that one of its airborne early warning and control aircraft, the E-2C Hawkeye, was deployed to conduct a series of training flights with a Beechcraft B-200 aircraft from the Naval Aviation Command belonging to the Maritime Surveillance Squadron.
