Thanks to a recent series of photographs released by the United States Air Force, it has been confirmed the participation of the Spanish Air and Space Force EF-18 Hornet fighter-bombers in one of the most recent deployments of B-52H Stratofortress strategic bombers in Europe. In recent weeks, the US has deployed additional units of these iconic aircraft in the United Kingdom as part of Bomber Task Force (BTF) Europe 24-3.

As previously reported, in order to enhance its deterrence and response capabilities in Europe, the United States Air Force recently deployed four of its B-52H bombers belonging to the 5th Bomb Wing of the Global Strike Command, based at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, to the United Kingdom.

Since their arrival on British soil and operating from Fairford Air Base, the aircraft have been conducting a series of activities and exercises as part of Bomber Task Force (BTF) Europe 24-3. The most recent of these gained special relevance as, as publicly recorded in various tracking systems, the B-52H aircraft conducted a series of flights circling around the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad as part of deployments in the Baltic region.

In this context, as officially reported on May 28th during their entry into the airspace of various NATO countries, the Stratofortress aircraft were escorted at each stage of the journey by fighter aircraft from the Spanish Air Force, as well as from Germany and Poland. In the case of Spain, as evidenced by the photographs, this important mission aimed to increase interoperability among allied forces and send a strong deterrent message, which was carried out by the EF-18 Hornet fighter-bombers (designated C.15).
