Thanks to a series of photographs released at the end of May, the SIMA shipyard showcased the latest progress in the construction of the new multipurpose LPD-type vessel B.A.P. Paita for the Peruvian Navy. The latest updates had dated back to early January, when the installation of the modules forming the ship’s superstructure and its respective masts were observed.
According to a statement from SIMA on May 29th on their social media, the Peruvian shipyard highlighted that “…B.A.P. PAITA left our dry dock to enter the ensamble dock, where the accommodation work and the installation of the electrical system will continue.”
As seen in the photographs, the current work is focused on the superstructure of the LPD vessel, progressing with the installation of various equipment and wiring necessary for its operation, as well as the integration of various weapons systems that will form part of the ship’s defense system. Notably, this includes the incorporation of remote weapon systems provided by the Spanish company Escribano, featuring their Scamo (Weapon Control System by Optronic Means) system.
The BAP “Paita,” launched in December 2022, is the second locally-built multipurpose Makassar-class LPD vessel by SIMA for the Peruvian Navy (MGP). Its construction began in 2017 with the support of the Daesun Shipbuilding & Engineering shipyard from South Korea. Its sister ship and lead vessel, the BAP “Pisco” (AMP-156), was commissioned into the MGP in 2018.
