Aselsan, Turkey’s leading defense company, has presented for the first time abroad at the Eurosatory exhibition its self-propelled anti-aircraft artillery system (SPAAG) Korkut. This event, taking place from June 17 to 21, 2024, marks a significant milestone for the company by showcasing the Korkut system integrated into an 8×8 vehicle from Otokar at an international exhibition.
The Korkut system has been designed to replace outdated systems and has already begun integration in Turkey. Each Korkut system consists of a command and control vehicle and three weapon platforms. The weapon platforms are equipped with twin 2×35 mm Oerlikon KDC-02 cannons, manufactured under license by MKEK. These cannons can fire up to 1,100 rounds per minute, with a range of up to 4 km.
The Korkut system’s command and control vehicle features a radar, providing superior capability to detect and track airborne threats, including UAVs, cruise missiles, etc. Integrating the Korkut system into an 8×8 vehicle aims to enhance its versatility. It includes IFF systems, an automatic ammunition handling system (enabling the selection of ammunition type), stabilization systems, and an automatic target tracking system.
According to the company, the Korkut system represents a significant advancement in air defense technology, offering an effective and modern solution against contemporary airborne threats. With its high-speed firing capability and advanced radar technology, the Korkut system is positioned as a crucial tool in integrated air defense.
