While en route to Pearl Harbor to participate in Exercise RIMPAC 2024, the Type LPD vessel BAP Pisco of the Peruvian Navy conducted a series of exercises and activities with the frigate Baden-Württemberg of the German Navy. These activities, which also involved the embarked assets of both ships, including Sea King and Lynx helicopters, are part of the so-called Multinational Group Sail, which includes several ships from various navies around the world that will be present for the RIMPAC Exercise.
As part of its participation in Exercise RIMPAC 2024, which will take place in waters near the island of Hawaii and is led by the United States Navy, the Peruvian Navy deployed the BAP Pisco. The locally built Type LPD vessel by SIMA set sail at the end of May from the Callao Naval Base in Lima.
Recently, on the way to Pearl Harbor, the Peruvian vessel joined the Multinational Group Sail composed of various naval units that will attend Exercise RIMPAC 2024. One of them is the German Navy, which has assigned the multipurpose frigate Baden-Württemberg (F222), the lead ship of its class, to the multinational activity, along with its embarked aircraft, including a Westland Sea Lynx helicopter, as seen in the released photographs.

Subsequently, the Peruvian LPD vessel and the German frigate performed a series of approaches and formation navigation. The activities continued into the night in the Pacific, with the ships conducting night approaches. This type of activity allows the personnel and assets of the various ships and navies participating in RIMPAC 2024 to prepare.
Lastly, and in reference to the multinational activity, Exercise RIMPAC 2024 will also serve as an opportunity for the United States’ allies and partners to participate in live-fire operations, involving the participation of forty surface ships, three submarines, over 150 aircraft, and more than 25,000 personnel from various countries under the motto “Partners: Integrated and Prepared.”
