Using the iconic Maracanã stadium in Rio de Janeiro as a backdrop, the armies of Brazil and the United States will conduct a combined Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Defense exercise today, named “Operation Maracanã.”
Led by the CBRN Defense Battalion under the Eastern Military Command of the Brazilian Army, the exercise aims to update the decontamination techniques and tactics used by Brazilian personnel, who have extensive experience in large-scale events such as the World Cup and the Olympics.
Specifically, operations will include sweeps of specific locations like booths and entrances, as well as the simulation of a chemical accident, involving the deployment of threat detection and containment measures.
According to the Brazilian Army’s notice, the performance of this unit attracted the attention of the United States Army, leading to this cooperative exercise between the two nations. Additionally, this activity will reinforce the camaraderie and friendship between the Brazilian and American armies.
