On July 12, 2024, the Brazilian Army Commission in Washington (CEBW), United States, subordinate to the Commander’s Office, issued Request for Quotation (RFQ) No. 0018/2024 to acquire six Bridge Erection Boats (BEB).
The RFQ also includes onboard equipment, components, special tools, spare parts, and accessories with militarized material characteristics. The public tender will be conducted as a Reverse Electronic Auction, adopting the criterion of the lowest global price.
Interested companies must submit their proposals by July 30 through the CEBW International Contracting System (SICOI): https://dakota.cebw.org/cebwWeb.
Technical Specifications
According to Annex No. QI 004/2024, the desired vessels are aluminum-hulled, jet-propelled transportable boats designed to:
- Maneuver rafts and floating bridge components.
- Operate Ribbon Bridge system modules.
- Support diving operations.
- Assist in aquatic construction projects.
- Support general bridge operations.
The boats must be equivalent to the BEB1 or M3 models, manufactured by the Australian company Birdon, and compatible with the Ribbon modular system and other floating bridge equipment already in the Brazilian Army’s inventory.
Contract with Birdon Last Year
In December 2023, the CEBW signed a contract with Birdon for two maneuver boats, including services, parts, and training. Previously, the Australian company had delivered at least three such boats to the Brazilian Army.
According to a press release from the company, Birdon has delivered over 450 Bridge Erection Boats worldwide. Final customers include the Armies of Australia, the United States, the Netherlands, and Brazil.
