In the framework of the operation “Relámpago del Catatumbo,” the Bolivarian National Armed Forces carried out the neutralization of a clandestine airstrip in the Semprún municipality of Zulia state, which was used for illegal flights linked to drug trafficking.
According to information provided by the General Commander of the Operational Strategic Command of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, Major General Domingo Hernández Lárez, the operation was conducted by the Bolivarian Military Aviation. They deployed K-8W Karakorum aircraft to conduct a bombing raid on the airstrip, aiming to render it unusable for airborne maneuvers. According to shared images, at least one K-8W dropped two bombs that struck the middle of the airstrip.
The efforts of the Bolivarian Military Aviation have intensified in recent days. This includes the interception of an illegal flight by an F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jet, after it disregarded orders from local air traffic controllers in Portuguesa state, northwest Venezuela. These actions complement operations from the previous day, where two aircraft were disabled in the same area of interest, and a clandestine airstrip was rendered unusable, prepared as an aerodrome and platform.
