With the aim of participating in a new edition of the Combined Operations and Rotation Exercises (CORE), Brazilian Army units specialized in operations in Amazonian environments will take part in the 2024 bilateral exercise alongside the U.S Army in August.
The Brazilian contingent for the exercise includes a company of infantry from the 52nd Jungle Infantry Battalion (52º BIS), based in Marabá, as well as members from the Battalion and Brigade Staffs. They will join a unit from the U.S Army’s 101st Airborne Division for approximately a month at Fort Johnson/Louisiana, based at the US Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC).
In the previous edition, which took place in Brazil, 300 U.S personnel participated, supported by a Boeing C-17 aircraft from the U.S Air Force. The activities occurred from November 7 to 16, 2023, in barracks located in Belém, Macapá, Oiapoque, and in the district of Clevelândia do Norte.
This exercise aims to maintain the historical ties between the countries and enhance integration and cooperation between their armies. The initiative dates back to 2021 when both armies signed a cooperation program that outlines annual bilateral exercises until 2028.
