The Army General Staff (EME), the general management body responsible for the development of Land Military Policy, announced that it will conduct Public Consultation No. 02/2024 – EME, from August 1 to November 1, 2024, with the aim of mapping two types of armored vehicles: main battle tanks (MBT) and infantry fighting vehicles (IFV).
The consultation also aims to conduct a price survey in the national and international markets. Both projects (VBC CC and VBC Fuz) are part of the Army’s Strategic Program for Armored Forces (Prg EE F Bld).
VBC CC (Combat Car Vehicles): 65 MBTs.
VBC Fuz (Riflemen Vehicles): 78 IFVs.
According to the Brazilian Army’s press release, the specifications will be publicly available starting August 1, 2024. Interested companies must complete the documents attached to the specifications by August 8, 2024, to qualify for the bid.
Army Strategic Program for Armored Forces
Part of the portfolio of strategic programs of the Land Force, the Prg EE F Bld, under the responsibility of the Army Command, aims to reactivate the production of armored vehicles in Brazil and replace old vehicles with more modern equipment.
The program is estimated at more than R$ 30 billion (USD 5.3 billion) and runs until 2040. In total, its scope includes 2,096 armored vehicles of the following types:
- VBTP-MSR Guarani 6×6: 6×6 armored vehicles.
- VBC Cav MSR 8×8: 8×8 armored vehicles.
- VBMT-LSR 4×4: 4×4 armored vehicles.
- VBC OAP-MSR 8×8: Self-propelled howitzers.
- VBR 6×6 EE-9 Cascavel: Modernization of the Cascavel.
- VBC CC Leopard 1A5BR: Modernization of the Leopard 1A5BR.
- VBC CC: Tanks
- VBC Fuz: Infantry fighting vehicles.
- VBE-Soc 6×6: Rescue vehicles.
In August 2023, the Brazilian government, through the Civil House of the Presidency of the Republic, included the Prg EE F Bld in the Growth Acceleration Program (known as the “New PAC”). In the defense sector, the New PAC is expected to mobilize R$ 52.8 billion (USD 9.3 billion) in investments across 16 strategic projects.
