The Peruvian Army (EP) publicly presented its new Arad-7 assault rifles during the highly attended civic-military parade celebrating Peruvian Independence Day in Lima.
This new weaponry is assembled at the country’s Army Weapons and Ammunition Factory (FAME S.A.C.) with technical assistance from the manufacturer, Israel Weapon Industries (IWI).
The EP personnel in charge of this exhibition were from the 1st Special Forces Brigade and the 1st Multipurpose Brigade, both based in Lima.
They showcased part of the 10,000 units of this 7.62 x 51 mm caliber weapon, which, according to the government, were acquired as part of the regular renewal of infantry soldiers’ armament.
It is estimated that around 3,500 units have already been delivered by this date, with a maximum deadline to complete the batch by the end of next October.
The purchase was not without criticism at the time, specially due to the unusual formula used by the Army to finalize it, which excluded other manufacturers of similar or greater renown.
The government has reported that this system replaces rifles from the past century, specifically referring to the FN Herstal FAL model 50-00 and the “Para” version (for paratroopers), as well as the IWI Galil used by units in the south.
