Continuing with the coverage provided by Zona Militar, this correspondent has been invited to the military ceremony that will take place at the Bridge of Boyacá, a historic site where in 1819 the independence of Colombia was consummated. On this day, the New Granadian troops faced the Spanish Army; the battle was fought in the course of the Teatinos River, near the city of Tunja, on the royal road to the capital, Bogotá.
Every year, an important military ceremony is held at the site, which this year will be attended by the President of the Republic, the Minister of Defense, the Governor of Boyacá, the Mayor of Tunja, military commanders, and other national authorities. It is also the day of the National Army of Colombia, which, after 205 years, also celebrates its commemoration.
The event will be organized by the José María Córdoba Military Academy, with the participation of the Fifth Division and the First Brigade of the Army, including their battalions:
- Infantry Battalion No. 1 GR Simón Bolívar
- Support and Combat Services Battalion No. 1 Cacique Tundama
- Infantry Battalion No. 2 Mariscal Antonio José de Sucre
- Mechanized Cavalry Group No. 1 GR Miguel Silva Plazas
- Artillery Battalion No. 1 Tarqui
- High Mountain Battalion No. 2 GR Santos Gutiérrez Prieto
- Instruction, Training, and Retraining Battalion No. 1 José Joaquín Camacho
- Gaula Military Group Boyacá
This year, demonstrations of capabilities such as mounted cavalry, mechanized cavalry, artillery, and infantry, as well as specialties like parachuting, precision shooting, aviation, air assault, communications, and military engineering are expected. However, after the embarrassing events of the July 20th celebration, we will have to wait for surprises.
We will be present at the grand celebration and will present our readers with a special feature on the event.
