Through a tender conducted via the ProZorro system, Ukraine’s Defense Procurement Agency delivered 154 Chinese-made Great Wall Wingle 5 pickup trucks to the country’s armed forces to bolster transportation capabilities amid the ongoing conflict with the Russian Federation.
After being evaluated and meeting all requirements, the Ministry of Defense has approved the use of these trucks and similar vehicles built on this specific chassis, which are now in active service with the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
In this context, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Defense, Dmytro Klimenkov, noted, “In the current situation, mobility is a key factor for the successful completion of combat missions. Trucks for the military are an integral part of this strategic approach. Efficient road transport is essential for the operation of mobile units, delivery of cargo and ammunition, and evacuation of the wounded.”
Maryna Bezrukova, Director of the Defense Procurement Agency, stated, “When acquiring these trucks, it was crucial for us to ensure that the vehicles met all military requirements while promoting strong competition and the most efficient use of the budget.”
It is worth noting that Great Wall is already familiar within the Ukrainian Armed Forces, with a history of collaboration between the Kremenchuk Automobile Assembly Plant (KrASZ) and the Chinese company for assembling trucks.
The Great Wall Wingle 5 trucks are equipped with a 2-liter diesel engine that meets Euro 4 standards and produces 143 horsepower. They feature a 6-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive. They can transport up to 5 people with a load capacity of up to 1 ton and have the ability to tow equipment up to 850 kg. The cargo bed can accommodate up to 4 people and additional equipment for transporting armament.
