In light of the latest reports, the Pacific Fleet of the Russian Navy has incorporated two new nuclear-powered submarines. Specifically, these are the ballistic missile submarine Emperor Alexander III and the attack submarine Krasnoyarsk, which completed their journey from the Northern Fleet.
According to an official statement from the TASS news agency: “The latest nuclear-powered submarines have completed the difficult journey under the ice and arrived at the main base of the Pacific Fleet. They have no rivals in their class and will operate in the Pacific Fleet to fulfill strategic deterrence tasks, maintain, and enhance Russia’s combat potential and military power,” stated Pavel Fradkov, the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation.
He added during the official reception ceremony: “I would like to highlight that the current training system for submariners, the ice navigation school, and the preparedness level of the headquarters at all levels of the Northern and Pacific Fleets allow for the rapid and effective execution of such important and responsible tasks.”
Regarding the units, first is the nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine Emperor Alexander III, the seventh unit of the Borei-A class. Its construction began in 2015, and it was launched in December 2022. Among its capabilities, it features six strategic ballistic missiles Bulava and is armed with 533 mm torpedoes and submarine-launched missiles.
Secondly, with a full submerged displacement of 13,800 tons, the Krasnoyarsk is the fourth nuclear-powered attack submarine of the Yasen-M class (Project 885) and is equipped with Oniks anti-ship missiles and Kalibr-PL cruise missiles.
