Continuing the process of replacing equipment lost in operations in Ukraine, the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) have received a new batch of Sukhoi Su-34 fighter-bombers. This new delivery is the fourth made during 2024, with aircraft produced by the Novosibirsk Aviation Plant, according to the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC).
Although no further details were provided, images and videos released by the Ministry of Defense and UAC indicate that this batch consists of three new units, which add to those delivered in April, June, and September. As usual, the lack of transparency in official statements makes it difficult to determine whether a larger number of Su-34s were delivered.
The Ministry of Defense expressed satisfaction with this new delivery of combat aircraft, stating: “The new batch of Su-34 aircraft has reinforced the Aerospace Forces. The timeliness of deliveries reflects the coordinated work of the aviation industry in favor of the Russian armed forces. I am confident that the new and improved capabilities of the Su-34s, which are currently equipped with a wide range of weaponry, will contribute to achieving the goals of the Special Military Operation (SMO),” said Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Denis Manturov.
Meanwhile, Yuri Slyusar, General Director of the United Aircraft Corporation, stated: “Our military factories are keeping pace with production to meet the Ministry of Defense’s obligations on time. Providing the army and navy with new aircraft is our primary task. At the same time, production teams are constantly working on improving processes and implementing technologies that allow us to increase production speed.”
As has been mentioned on several occasions, Russia’s industrial complex is focusing its efforts on replacing equipment lost during combat operations in Ukraine. Regarding the Su-34, although various sources and Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) specialists do not have an exact figure, it is estimated that since the invasion began in late February 2022, the Aerospace Forces have lost around 30 units. In addition, aircraft that suffered damage of varying degrees must also be considered, which has reduced the availability of these attack aircraft.
