Another company that participated in AUSA 2024 was BAE Systems, which showcased two prototypes of the Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV), each equipped with different mission capabilities to meet the operational requirements of the United States Army. These vehicles, displayed at BAE’s stand, are notable for their modular approach.
The first prototype is designed for combat tasks and features a medium-caliber 30 mm turret, a configuration that optimizes its offensive capability. The turret is based on technology similar to that used in the Amphibious Combat Vehicle (ACV-30) program, ensuring interoperability between platforms and simplifying training and maintenance processes for military personnel.
On the other hand, the second prototype showcases the Modular Turreted Mortar System (MTMS), a development that has been successfully tested at the Yuma Test Center and demonstrated at the Maneuver Warfighter Conference. This system enables the AMPV to carry out indirect fire support missions with greater efficiency and accuracy, enhancing the capability of maneuver units in combat. The integration of the NEMO remote-controlled mortar, developed in collaboration with Patria/Kongsberg, further expands its operational versatility.
According to BAE Systems, both AMPV prototypes reflect the intent to offer solutions adapted to the Army’s evolving needs. With the use of a common modular top plate, these vehicles allow different configurations and systems to be quickly integrated based on mission requirements, facilitating efficient logistics and quicker deployment in critical situations.
BAE Systems has emphasized the importance of this platform within the U.S. Army’s modernization process, highlighting that the AMPV vehicles not only replace older platforms but also provide new capabilities that enhance troop safety and survivability. The vehicles are designed to operate in high-threat environments while maintaining optimal protection and superior mobility.
