During the AUSA 2024 fair, Rheinmetall presented its HX Heavy Recovery Vehicle, part of the HX tactical truck family. This recovery vehicle offers a specific solution for the increasing needs of the U.S. Army’s infantry formations, especially with the introduction of the M10 Booker medium tank, providing recovery support without compromising the critical mobility of the units.
The HX Heavy Recovery Vehicle is based on an advanced chassis from the HX line, known for its high mobility and performance in complex terrain. Among its configurations, the vehicle is available in 6×6, 8×8, and 10×10 versions, adapting to both public roads and difficult terrain. The cabin system allows a transition between protected and unprotected versions, providing flexibility according to the mission.
The vehicle features a sophisticated winch system capable of supporting up to 25 tons of pull, and a low-lift system with a capacity of up to 15 tons in the 8×8 and 10×10 versions. It is also equipped with a rotator with a 360-degree working range, allowing it to load ISO containers of up to 17 tons. The possibility of integrating an articulated arm in the 6×6 chassis further expands its recovery and rescue capabilities.
Rheinmetall also presented the HX bridge system at AUSA, designed for operations where access to the objective is obstructed. The system includes the Anaconda bridge, capable of crossing rivers and ditches with 22-meter modules or two sections of 12 meters each, supporting up to NATO main battle tanks. Automated deployment is completed in less than five minutes, offering a more economical solution than tracked platforms.
Another key component of the HX family is the military excavator, which provides essential support in construction and obstacle clearance. This vehicle features a fully rotating telescopic arm, capable of lifting up to 7.5 tons, and adapting to various tasks with multiple attachments such as hooks and hydraulic cutters.
Rheinmetall also showcased its Automated Load Handling System (ALHS), designed to enhance personnel safety during loading and unloading operations. This system allows a single operator to control the entire process from the vehicle’s cab, even in challenging terrain. The ALHS facilitates the handling of ISO containers, modules, and platforms, reducing operational times and risks to operators.
