Coinciding with the delivery of a new batch of Su-57 Felon stealth fighters, the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) has also confirmed the provision of another lot of Sukhoi Su-34 strike fighters (NATO designation: Fullback) to the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS). With this addition, Russia’s aerospace industry continues replenishing aircraft lost to attrition during nearly three years of war in Ukraine.
According to various reports gathered throughout 2024, this latest batch marks the sixth delivery to the Russian Ministry of Defense for its Aerospace Forces. Previous deliveries were recorded in April, June, September, October, and, most recently, in November. However, as has become customary, no specific numbers were disclosed regarding the aircraft delivered to the VKS. Based on images and videos released with each delivery, it is estimated that UAC has provided between 12 and 14 new aircraft this year.
“Aerospace enterprises under Rostec consistently supply equipment to the armed forces. The Su-57 and Su-34 aircraft delivered today will soon join the ranks. The Su-34 tactical bomber is valued by pilots for its high technical, tactical, and combat characteristics. Meanwhile, the Su-57 is the king of the skies—the most advanced aircraft in the tactical-operational category. Today, it is the only aviation system in the world to demonstrate, under prolonged combat conditions, its capacity to be classified as a fifth-generation fighter. It is effective against a wide range of targets thanks to its arsenal of precision-guided weapons. Its low detectability allows it to strike enemies even in the face of modern air defense countermeasures,” said Rostec CEO Sergey Chemezov.
While reports vary, multiple sources indicate that the VKS has lost more than 30 Su-34 strike fighters during the conflict in Ukraine. Therefore, each delivery of new units is of critical importance for the Aerospace Forces to maintain their overall combat capabilities, particularly in attack and close air support roles.
