<blockquote data-quote="cosmiccomet74" data-source="post: 1747735" data-attributes="member: 4858"><p><a href="http://avherald.com/h?article=482a5e9e&opt=0">http://avherald.com/h?article=482a5e9e&opt=0</a></p><p></p><p>By Simon Hradecky, created Wednesday, Mar 4th 2015 09:00Z, last updated Wednesday, Mar 4th 2015 10:57Z</p><p></p><p></p><p>A THY Turkish Airlines Airbus A330-300, registration TC-JOC performing flight TK-726 (dep Mar 3rd) from Istanbul (Turkey) to Kathmandu (Nepal) with 227 passengers and 11 crew, had aborted the first approach to Kathmandu's runway 02 and had gone around from about minimum descent altitude due to fog at about 07:11L (01:26Z), positioned for a second approach to runway 02 and touched down on runway 02 at about 07:43L (01:58Z), but then veered left off the runway and came to a stop with all gear on soft ground, the nose gear collapsed. The crew initiated an evacuation of the aircraft via slides. 4 people received minor injuries in the evacuation.</p><p></p><p>The airport is currently closed for all international traffic, domestic aircraft are permitted to land on runway 20 and depart from runway 02 with runway 02 threshold displaced by 1550 meters (remaining runway length 1550 meters).</p><p></p><p>Nepal's Civil Aviation Authority reported one of the wheels had touched down off the runway, the tyre burst, the aircraft subsequently veered left. 4 people received minor injuries during the evacuation.</p><p></p><p>Kathmandu Airport reported the aircraft went around on first approach due to lack of visual reference with the runway, the second approach occurred quite some time later.</p><p></p><p>The airline reported the aircraft carrying 223 passengers plus one infant and 11 crew slid off the runway while landing in Kathmandu, the passengers were safely evacuated. One passenger received minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.
