Paris, 16 August 2012 Doel-3 reactor pressure vessel and other reactors with RPVs manufactured by the same company The OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) is following developments closely. There will be discussions between the plant operators and the safety authorities in each country concerning inspections to show that their reactors are not similarly affected. The safety authorities will make sure that operators take the necessary measures to ensure that reactors are safe at all times and can continue operating. Inspections of the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) are usually carried out about every ten years, but it would be prudent to use this type of operating experience to ensure that future inspections check the reactors for these kinds of micro-fissures. The NEA and other organisations provide a forum for regulators to share lessons learnt from these types of issues. This will undoubtedly be a topic for future NEA meetings.
