The Central African country has expressed an intention to buy a total of three corvettes from South Korea since its president, Teodoro Obiang Nguema, visited Seoul in August, Park Young-june, a vice minister at South Korea's Ministry of Knowledge Economy, said before returning home from an African trip. Obiang told South Korean President Lee Myung-bak during his trip to Seoul that his country would bolster its national security by purchasing warships from abroad, Park said. The oil-rich yet impoverished country has been in the throes of security-related unrest for years. In August, the leaders of the two nations agreed to promote cooperation on petroleum and liquefied natural gas (LNG) development. [/QUOTE]
