Klimov Looks to Equip Ansat Helos with All-Russian Turboshaft By ANDREW CHUTER, PARIS Engine maker Klimov has vowed to replace Pratt & Whitney Canada’s PW206 engine on Kazan Helicopters’ Ansat rotorcraft with a new engine development of its own. “Our task is to replace the Pratt &Whitney engine on the Ansat,” said a Klimov official during a media briefing at the Paris Air Show here. “We will try and replace the current engine on the Ka-226, as well.” Klimov officials said they had finished prototype testing of the VK-800, an engine it is billing as the first all-Russian turboshaft helicopter powerplant developed since the end of the Soviet era. Company officials said the 800-shaft-horsepower engine will be ready for certification and production by 2009. The first customer will be the Russian Ministry of Defence, they said. Klimov is looking for international sales of the engine. It reckons that it can account for about 2,400 of a potential market of over 7,500 engines sold in the 600-1,000hp engine sector until 2016. Engine market figures made available by Klimov show the 600-1,000 hp sector accounting for over 30 percent of the market until 2016. The next biggest sector, the 1,500-1,999hp engine, showed engine sales of 6,811. The Russian engine maker said it was already looking at a high-power turboshaft version of the VK-800 in the 1,200 hp range for 2010 and would produce a turboprop version for fixed-wing aircraft in 2009. -------------------------------------------------------------- Muy corta traducción: Klimov planea reemplazar los motores de P&W206 Canadá por otros de fabricación propia.
