Islamabad is reported interested in acquiring the three new advanced versions of conventional submarines in a bid to increase its naval capabilities to meet any challenges from the rapidly expanding Indian navy, military experts say. Naval Chief has already said that the submarines and other equipment for naval forces would be acquired on the transfer of technology basis. Submarine that is being considered is U-214/U-212 submarine which is a much more advanced submarine than the Scorpene submarine ordered by the Indian Navy. U-214 submarine has diving depth of 400 meters, due to improvements in the pressure hull materials and the submarine also incorporates much of the stealth technology.U-214/U-212 is equipped with the AIP system which is very quiet and produces no exhaust heat, making the U-214/U-212 very difficult to detect. The AIP fuel cell allows the U-214/U-212 to cruise underwater for weeks without surfacing.Many navies have shown interest in the submarine. Greek Navy & South Korean Navy has already ordered 3 submarines.Pakistan and Germany have deepened military and security ties over the past years. Germany has become the fourth country after the United States, Japan and Russia to begin a strategic dialogue with Pakistan. There are regular political-military talks with Pakistan army officials on security and military issues which include counter- terrorism and training of Pakistani officers in Germany. Pakistani officers have received military training and education trained in Germany in recent years as part of military education and training programs.
