In total, the South American country is buying an additional 18 Dutch combat aircraft of this type.</p><p></p><p>In 2006, Chile already purchased 18 F-16s. With the current contract, the number of fighter aircraft of the Royal Air Force has decreased further to 87. On June 1 last year, the first F-16s purchased under this initial contract were handed over to the Chilean Air Force. The third and final six-aircraft batch was delivered by the Ministry of Defence in September 2011.</p><p></p><p>Besides the fighters, today an Ilyushin IL-76 transport aircraft also left Volkel air base, in Brabant, carrying spare parts and navigation equipment for the F-16s to Chile.</p><p></p><p>Defence Sales</p><p></p><p>Defence has decided to free up money by selling its surplus weapons. Besides combat aircraft, it is also selling artillery and tanks.
