"By leveraging this Canadian solution, the Peruvian Navy will gain real-time access to accurate and useful situational awareness intelligence provided by our integrated sensor suite, allowing operators to conduct complex surface and subsurface maritime, blue water and littoral surveillance, and search-and-rescue operations," said Fava.</p><p></p><p><strong>The mission systems for Peru's helicopters will be based on GD Canada's Sonobouy Acoustics and Stores Management systems,</strong> according to the company. IHS Jane's understands that Peruvian Super Seasprites<strong> will have their APS-143C radars upgraded to the (V)3 version and will receive a new dipping sonar (most likely L-3 HELRAS) to increase capabilities for ASW missions.</strong></p><p>The government-to-government contract was signed on 9 October and facilitated by the Canadian Commercial Corporation (CCC). Peru's navy is understood to have allocated a<strong> USD115 million budget for this acquisition, covering the helicopters and upgrades. Delivery is expected to start by late 2015.</strong></p><p>ANALYSIS</p><p></p><p>The SH-2G acquisition marks an important boost for the Peruvian Navy's embarked ASW capabilities, which currently consists of only two Sikorsky SH-3D and two Agusta (Bell) AB 212ASW helicopters, all four with more than 30 years in service.</p><p></p><p>These incoming SH-2Gs had been in service with the RNZAF since 2001 before being acquired by General Dynamics Air & Space of Canada.</p><p></p><p>Meanwhile, the RNZAF Super Seasprite fleet is being replaced by eight former Australian SH-2G(I), the first of which performed its maiden flight last April.
