This model has a simplifyed, tightened up and shortened by 3 1/8th" gas system (.030 smaller gas port). The FAL fire control group with battle peep sight puts this unit way past the clunker class AK. As you can see, the grip to forend is tighter than the AK, giving it a "machine pistol hold". The hybrid front sight is a combination of the original front sight mig welded over the original gas block and a new snug stainless steel gas block fitted. The take down pin is a 96 mauser safety cut down and spring/ball detent keeper added. The peep over the front ring sight is first rate. The mag well has been opened up slightly to use standard AK mags. With the heavy wood but stock, the unit wieghs in at 8 lbs w/no mag. Rapid fire with all this wood n steel is more satisfying with less wasted hits (compared to the totaly unbalanced AK) . Im not total done with this experiment yet mechanicaly, and the wood needs to be match stained and finished. Also, the barrel is pitted front to rear so next winter I will put a SS barrel on it. It has had a little over 200rds through it and functions super! The next one may be a side folder.
