The aircraft led the first attack on Puerto Argentino during the Malvinas War where BBC journalist Brian Hanrahan famously "counted them all back".</p><p>Dad-of-three Neil, 39, said: "I was 14 when the war broke out and used to watch them flying out on the news every night. I was so disappointed when they stopped flying them last year - but I couldn't believe it when I saw one on eBay so I jumped at the chance.</p><p>"It was my daughter Jess's 14th birthday and she put the bid on for me.</p><p>"We then went out to a barbecue and the next morning we found out we owned a Sea Harrier."</p><p>The 46ft-long aircraft is now being stored in a hangar near his home in Wedmore, Somerset. Builder Neil had the plane delivered from an aircraft dealer in Suffolk and now plans to restore the jet to its former glory.</p><p><u><strong>Sea Harrier ZX494 came complete with two 30mm cannons but minus its £250,000 Pegasus engine and computer systems due to regulations which prevent it being flown in the UK.</strong></u></p><p>Neil hopes to pick up a used engine from aircraft maker BAE Systems.</p><p><u><strong>The original ejector seat is still in place - but the explosive charge has been removed to prevent Neil being accidentally fired through the hanger roof</strong></u>. On the historic flight on May 1, 1982, the Harrier was piloted by Black Leader Lt Cmdr Andy Auld, dropping cluster bombs on Puerto Argentino airfield.</p><p>The jets were nicknamed the "black death" by Argentinian pilots after shooting down 21 enemy aircraft.</p><p>BBC journalist Hanrahan, who was restricted from reporting aircraft numbers during battle, said as they returned to the aircraft carrier: "I've counted them all out, and I've counted them all back."</p></blockquote><p></p>
