For any warship at sea, control of the situation starts with a clear and reliable picture of the environment. To amply satisfy this vital requirement, Thales Nederland developed the DA 05 radar system. The DA 05 is a high power E/F-band (S-band) radar for medium-range surveillance and target indication to weapon control systems.
Capable of detecting a jet fighter at approximately 135 km, the DA 05 is a stable and very reliable system, distinguished by its high-gain antenna, powerful transmitter, and sensitive receiver. A narrow beam with and short pulse length result in clear resolution.
This helps ensure accurate target indication. Further enhanced by a choice of frequencies and a video processor, the system is capable of performing effectively in a cluttered environment.
The DA 05 has a magnetron-powered transmitter, a solid-state receiver with digital MTI, and interference suppression circuits ensuring high reliability in rain, sea, and land clutter. A low side-lobe level assists the system to continue operation in ECM environments. The carbon-fibre version ' because of its lowweight ' enables installation in positions high on a mast and on smaller ships.
For upgrade and ship-life-extension-programs (
SLEP),
a solid state transmitter is available. Combined with an improved automated tracking and track initiation processor with an open-architecture interface,
life extension is an effective solution from operational and cost perspective as recognized by a number of navies.

DA08 (SPQ-501/RAWS03)
The DA 08 is a coherent E/F-band (S-band) radar for medium range surveillance, providing target indication to weapon control systems. It meets all vital requirements for any naval radar systems: DA 08 presents a clear picture of the environment; it does so, reliably, under any circumstances; and it does it without adding great weight to the superstructure of the ship. The aspect that distinguished DA 08 from its competitors is its wide range and superb accuracy. The system has proven its worth time and time again, operating in various configurations. DA 08 performs with great frequency agility over a wide band, due to its synthesizer-driven TWT transmitter.
Excellent performance under various clutterconditions is ensured by the wide dynamic range receiver with application of digital video processing, supported by circular polarization.
The DA 08 antenna has a low side-lobe level, which assists the system in operating under ECM conditions. Moreover, due to its lightweight construction and hydraulically controlled stabilization platform, this antenna can be installed at a high mast position, thereby improving performance.
