Source: Chinese internet sources via cjdby.netKey Points<ul> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">China appears to have adopted the Type 054A frigate design for a new coastguard ship</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">The platform will bolster the China Coast Guard's ability to conduct operations at distance</li> </ul>Images of what appears to be a new-build China Coast Guard (CCG) ship resembling the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) Type 054A Jiangkai II-class guided-missile frigate with CCG livery are being circulated on Chinese internet forums and blogs.The images first appeared in late May 2016 and show a vessel, bearing pennant number 46301, in the water and undergoing further paint work.According to IHS Jane's Fighting Ships , the Type 054A is 134 m long, has a beam of 16 m and a draught of 5 m. The platform can accommodate one helicopter in its hangar, has a top speed of 27 kt, and a standard range of 3,800 n miles at 18 kt. The PLAN currently operates a fleet of 22 Type 054As.However, unlike the PLAN ships, the coastguard vessel may not be equipped with a 32-cell vertical launching system (VLS) in the forward section, and would be unlikely to feature any submarine prosecution capabilities. It also remains to be seen if the platform will retain the 76 mm main gun found on the PLAN ships because the vessel has yet to be outfitted with any weapon or sensor system components.<img src="http://www.janes.com/images/assets/904/60904/p1651600.jpg" alt="" class="fr-fic fr-dii fr-draggable " style="" />The new Type 054A vessel, pictured here in CCG livery, has a hangar and helicopter flight deck.
