The M-346s' twin Honeywell/ITEC F124 engines will be provided under a separate agreement between the Israeli and US governments using Foreign Military Sales funding.Israel procured the M-346, to be named 'Lavi' (Lion) in IAF service, in 2012 to replace its fleet of 37 Douglas TA-4 Skyhawk ('Ahit' - Vulture) aircraft which is due to be retired.In securing the approximately USD1 billion deal, Alenia beat-off competition from Korean Aerospace Industries and its T-50 Golden Eagle aircraft.
