VARD empresa canadiense adjudicada para la elaboración del diseño de LPD a pedido de la Armada de Chile pertenece al conglomerado Leonardo (Fincantieri). Esta empresa con mucha experiencia en buques de aguas frias (similar entorno al de acá) ya había trabajado antes con ASMAR, específicamente en 1988 con el transporte Aquiles que es precisamente uno de los buques que se va a reemplazar con el programa Escotillón IV:

Vard Amphibious & Military Sea Transport Vessel for the Chilean Navy
Vard Marine Inc. has been awarded the contract to design an Amphibious and Military Transport Vessel for the Chilean Navy by ASMAR Shipbuilding & Ship Repair Company. The ships will be constructed at the ASMAR shipyard in Talcahuano, Chile.
These multi-role vessels will be capable of operating throughout the Pacific and Southern Ocean with services to include logistic support, search and rescue (SAR) missions, troop and asset movement and deployment, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) operations.
The new vessel will be based on existing Vard Series 7 designs and will be specially adapted to the specific requirements of the Chilean Navy, incorporating the latest generation of integrated well-dock systems enabling the carriage and deployment of a wide range of containerized and vehicle cargo, landing craft, helicopters and rescue boats, for logistics, SAR and HADR missions.

Desconozco cual buque debería salir primero del servicio cuando este primer par de anfibios esté en servicio pero por antiguedad deberían ser las 02 barcazas LST clase Batral.

LST-95 Chacabuco
El segundo batch de anfibios serían el reemplazo del transporte Aquiles y del LDSH Sargento Aldea.

Como se ve, se pasa de buques de distintos tamaños a algo más estandarizado.
