The Argentine Air Force (Fuerza Aerea Argentina-FAA) had acquired around 28 surplus of Sabre F-86Fs in 1960.
Those airplanes were based in the 4th Air Brigade located in Mendoza.
During the early 70s the FAA bought A4C to replace the Sabre and they
tried to sell it to other Southamerican Air Forces.
Venezuela and Uruguay were interested in those airplanes but USA blocked
the sale.
Before 1978 the airplanes were sent to reserve in Rio Cuarto, Cordoba.
But due the Argentine-Chile crisis in 1978, The FAA put again in operations
the venerable Sabres.
After the crisis was put on hold the airplanes were sent again to storage but
during the Malvinas war they were sent back to Mendoza.
As you can see those airplanes were very old at that moment so the FAA decided to keep them in reserve doing patrol flights in the Chilean-Argentine border.
The F-86F had been in service until 1986 when an aircraft suffered a catastrophic
wing failure during a training flight
