Offshore Patrol Vessels
In the light of new threats, navy and coast guard missions are converging more and more, sometimes they even overlap. To relief naval vessels with demanding military standards and packed with highly sophisticated warfare systems from these type of missions Blohm + Voss Naval has designed an Offshore Patrol Vessel designated the Sentinel-Class OPV.
The Sentinel is derived from a proven military standard design - the MEKO® 100 Corvette. With a mix of commercial and military standards the vessel is a very flexible and economic solution for customer requirements ranging from the upper sphere of the military mission spectrum through to coast guard and even civilian missions.
In the tradition of the MEKO® design concept, a special emphasis has been given to provide the Sentinel-Class OPV with a high degree of flexibility to carry out a wide range of missions and tasks, including:
- Patrol and surveillance
- Force projection
- Command platform
- Helicopter operations
- Special operations and maritime law enforcement
- Sea boat operations
- Anti-drug and smuggling
- Land and support operations
- Search and rescue
- Diving and salvage
- Disaster relief
- Scientific research
- Ceremonial duties
The Sentinel-Class OPV is equipped with a large helicopter deck. Depending on the operational requirements of the vessel an optional telescopic hangar can be arranged.
The design provides outstanding interior volumes that allow for maximum comfort, proper deck-head heights as well as very good mission, accommodation, hotel, commissariat and storage spaces. In addition the Sentinel-Class OPV is prepared to carry modules to provide adequate utility spaces for temporary berthing of special forces, disaster victims or refugees, or the temporary storage of emergency supplies.

Guardian Class OPV
The Guardian-Class is derived from the Sentinel Class OPV, a customer tailored affordable Offshore Patrol Vessel and offers more space and volume with one additional deck
A refined mono-hull shape with an excellent length-to-beam ratio and a forefoot bulb, combined with active fin stabilizers, provide excellent sea keeping capabilities. This enables the vessel to operate effectively in rough sea conditions with comfort and safety. In particular it ensures continuous and safe day and night helicopter and boat operations when underway, and the effective operation of sensors and weapons.
The Guardian-Class OPV is characterized by an outstanding endurance. With adequate onboard provisions and an operating range exceeding 10.000 nautical miles the Guardian-Class OPV is designed for extended out-of-base operations. Special emphasis has been given to the design and equipment to provide for a high degree of flexibility to carry out a wide range of missions and tasks, including:
- Extensive surveillance operations
- Law enforcement in EEZ
- Special operations
- Disaster relief
- Environmental protection
- Search and Rrescue operations
The incorporation of large, fast interceptor boats and an outstanding helicopter operations capability provides the Guardian-Class OPV with excellent surveillance, inspection and interdiction capabilities.

Multi-Role Helicopter Dockship
Blohm + Voss understands the operational needs placed on navies by governments responding to political and security calls.
Based on proven Super Fast Ferry and Fast Monohull Cruise Liner designs, Blohm + Voss Multi-Role Vessels of 4.000 - 20.000 tons are the answer to affordable, flexible solutions for military, expeditionary, peace-keeping and humanitarian missions. The vessels can be outfitted for command and control operations, can carry up to eleven helicopters, offer amphibious craft docking, vehicle decks, self-defence capabilities, variable accommodations for crew and more than 800 embarked personnel/troops, large capacity hospitals and/or emergency accommodation for refugees/victims – mission modularity in its true sense.
The
Multi-
Helicopter
Dock ship (MHD), a vessel of unmatched design flexibility, offers superior sea-lift and seabase capabilities. Ranging from 15.000 to 20.000t the MHD has a maximum main flight deck of 170m/4000 square meters, six landing pads and hangar space for additional five medium sized helicopters. The floodable well-dock can accommodate two LCU’s or one LCAC. Two LCMs and RHIBs are arranged on davits port and starboard. This type of vessel provides up 1000 lane meters for vehicles and or containers. It is independent from shore utilities due to its own loading and unloading equipment and permits simultaneous flight and cargo activities. The MHD can be fitted with optional self-defence sensors/effectors.
