Erik Simonsen‎ - The Greatest Planes That Never Were

A 'What Might Have Been' formation that never took place: A USAF/Convair B-58 Hustler (With conceptual "Project Bullseye" camouflage) operating as a conventionally armed ‘Pathfinder’, leads a USAF/Republic F-105D, and a conceptual operational USAF/North American F-107D. The B-58 was slated to replace the EB-66B "Pathfinder". Although conventional weapons testing took place in the U.S., deployment of the sophisticated B-58 to Vietnam was eventually denied by then Sec. of Defense Robert McNamara. Of the three aircraft, the F-105D was the only aircraft that served in Southeast Asia. Details in Chapter 5 of the aviation history book, "U.S. Combat Aircraft Fly-Off Competitions”, by Erik Simonsen ---- Erik Simonsen photo/illustration

En realidad era un contenedor de su armamento principal, un arma.nuclear. el contenedor tenía dos partes, era depósito de combustible y una vez consumido se desechaba una parte y quedaba otro.mas chico, interno, con el armá nuclear.
